Beiqi Foton will debut on the Polish market later this year. One of the biggest Chinese producer of commercial vehicles is building sales network. Although we don’t know the official Foton’s offer, we can suppose that only new cars with European homologation and Euro 5 norm can appear on the Polish streets. Foton has only one model which meets our expectations. It is a newest pickup named Foton Tunland (code P201).
At present Tunland is the best model of Chinese producer. Probably new pickup will be sold on the Australian market in the first half of this year. Its main producer will be Great Wall Motor and model Wingle (in Europe sola as Steed). Maker compare P201 to Toyota Hilux. The car measures 5310mm long, 1880mm wide and 1810mm tall, with 220mm of ground clearance - making it 180mm longer, 120mm wider and the same height as the Japanese pickup. The offer will include two engines - petrol 2.4l (136 hp) and Diesel available with two power variants: 130 hp (280 Nm) and 163 hp (360 Nm). With more powerful engine pickup achieves 100 km/h in 13,5 seconds. The most important thing is, that Diesel comes from American Cummins company, which is responsible for preparing huge engines for famous Dodge RAM. Two engines will be connected to a Getrag five-speed manual transmission at launch, and ZF six-speed auto to join the range later.
The car probably will be cheaper about 15-20 percent then Japanese competitors and it means price 70,000 – 75,000 PLN without tax on the Polish market for Double Cab version with 4x4 drive. Producer promises that the pickup is being engineered to achieve a four-star EuroNCAP crash safety rating despite lack of ESP system.
Tunland is waiting for full European approval at the moment.
