Hydrogen cars - the future of Chinese industry

China's State Council says it is urging domestic companies to continue developing fuel cell vehicle technologies along with plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. Automakers and suppliers should "undertake the research and development of advanced technologies related to fuel cell vehicles ..." the council said - according to Auto News China.

Chery to launch hydrogen powered vehicle by 2012

China's Chery Automobile Co is planning to launch a pure hydrogen powered vehicle in the coming three years, Jinghua newspaper reports Thursday. Yuan Tao, deputy general manager of Chery, said at an industry forum that Chery is set to make breakthroughs in hydrogen fuel technologies in the next three years and at the meantime strengthens the R&D of methanol and turbo charging technologies.

First hybrid from SAIC before the end of 2010

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC) plans to start mass producing its first hybrid by the end of 2010. The car will be based on the existing Roewe 750 model. The car will be a mild hybrid, which uses an electric motor to assist propulsion and cannot power the car alone. Fitted with a lithium ion battery, the hybrid is to ensure 20 percent less fuel consumption.

Beiqi Foton will export fuel-cell buses

At the recent Beijing auto show, Beiqi Foton Motor launched China's first city bus model using the third-generation zero-emission fuel cell technology. The carmaker has produced four city buses powered by the fuel cells and will put them into a trial run on the designated streets in Beijing after the industry and municipal authorities give the green light.
