Chery Auto mulls opening factory in Brazil

Big Chinese automaker Chery is considering open a 700-million-dollar factor in Brazil to tap into the country's growing market, and to learn more about building biofuel-capable engines, Brazil's Gazeta Mercantil daily reported Friday. "Our development center is already working on this project," the head of Chery, Yin Tongyao, said. The plant, which would supply the Latin American market, would be built by 2012 if it goes ahead, he said.

Hafei Auto to make cheap, clean dual-fuel sedan

To speed up its manufacturing of energy-efficient, eco-friendly vehicles, Harbin Hafei Automobile Industry Group will put its self-developed dual-fuel sedan in to mass production soon, xinhuanet.com reported today. This dual-fuel Hafei Saibao sedan model is low in emission and in price - clean and cheap.

China to offer rebates on green vehicles

China state radio informed, that the government would offer huge cash rebates for green vehicles. If new regulations come into life, inhabitants of 13 major cities would receive returns higher than 80,000 USD (600,000 yuan – 87,700 USD). The worth of supplement will depend on the car’s type, and maximum fare will be practically given only for institutional customers.

Geely targets methanol-powered cars

Zhejiang Geely Holdings Group said it will start mass producing methanol-powered vehicles by the end of the year, becoming the latest domestic car maker to make new energy-saving cars which will account for 10 percent of the total production of the industry within five years. The privately-owned car maker plans to launch a methanol version of its Haifeng sedan by the end of 2008, according to a statement released by the company yesterday.

Lifan will market „520” with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

Lifan has announced today, that in June next year it is going to start production of “520” with Compressed Natural Gas. In China, cars with this kind of drive are only a small part of the market, but interest in alternative, ecological sources of drive is getting bigger, because of higher petrol prices and activities to reduce CO2 emission. “520” model will be equipped with additional tank for compressed gas with 65 litres of capacity, situated in a boot. The car will burn 6.22 litres/100 km.
