Changan Auto to launch Benben Mini car in March

Changan Auto is set to launch its first self-developed compact car Benben Mini in March, media reported. It will be priced between 35,000 yuan ($5,130) and 50,000 yuan. Based on the company's best-selling first-generation Benben model, which appeared to be a chunky but useable car, the Benben Mini has an entirely new door line, rear end and has been given a cuter front end, according to the China Car Times.

Four Chinese astronauts buy Volvo S80L cars

Four Chinese astronauts who have successfully accomplished Shenzhou-5 and Shenzhou-7 space missions have chosen to buy Volvo S80L sedans, media reported yesterday, citing a press release of Volvo Cars China. The Volvo S80L car is locally made in China by Ford Motor's Chinese venture with Changan Auto.

Changan Auto to sell 1,000 Jiexun-HEVs in '09

Changan Automobile, China's fourth-largest automaker, will put its self-developed hybrid-power sedan Jiexun-HEV onto the market in May. The company aims to sell 1,000 Jiexun-HEV this year, said Renyong, vice general manager of Changan's new energy auto subsidiary, to Shanghai Securities News. This hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) model of Changan Auto is the first in production in China featuring the all-domestic hybrid drive system technology.

Changan to assemble vehicles in Mexico in 2010

Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. and its Mexican partner Autopark Group plan to start assembling Changan's vehicles in Mexico in the second half of 2010 - according service autonewschina.com. They will first start selling imported vehicles there later this year.

Changan Auto gets $2.9m for hybrid car making

Chinese automaker Changan Auto has obtained a 20 million yuan ($2.93 million) government grant for its hybrid car subsidiary, Chongqing Changan New Energy Auto, said local media on Friday. The newly founded company will develop several hybrid models and launch them to the market by 2012.

Electric Changan CV6 this year in Canada

Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. will partner with Canadian battery maker Electrovaya Inc. to start assembling and selling electric Ben Ben (known in China as CV6) in Canada later this year. Anyway, the car does not have the full official certification and is not allowed to move on public roads.

Two hybrid cars to be launched by Changan

Though there is no petrol version of sedan CV8 in Changan’s offer yet, the carmaker has already announced, that in the second half of 2008 it is going to present the hybrid version of the car. Its price will be 20-30% higher than the one with traditional drive and will be set around 100,000 yuans (around 32,000 PLN). Likely, the hybrid hatchback (code V802) will appear on the market.

Changan Motor going to start production in Iran

Changan Motor Corp., Chinese partner of Ford Motor, has announced that it is going to start the cars’ production in Iran in the first half of 2009. The assemble of parts imported from China will take place in local company’s factories – PIDF. The first car, going to be produced, will be Benben with 1,3L engine, already known in China as CV6. Later Changan is going to enter to European and USA markets, even though it doesn’t give dates of expansion in these regions.

New Chinese cars designed by… Pininfarina!

At the Pekin motor show, which will last between 20-28 of April, two Chinese concerns will present three cars designed by famous Italian design house – Pininfarina. Anhui Jianghuai Automobile will present the New five-door hatchback (A107 code) and sedan CV8 (A108 code). Brilliance will unveil for the first time BS4 wagon version (Station Wagon).

Hydrogen Changan – as the ecological hit in Pekin

Changan is going to present first Chinese hydrogen car at the Pekin auto show. Prototype coupe – Liang Jian weighs 750 kg and has really low air resistance. According to company’s representatives, high effective and economic hydrogen engine is a breakthrough in Chinese technology development, aiming to protect environment and keep natural energy sources. The first prototype engine’s official presentation took place in June last year.
