Evolution of Chinese Rolls-Royce

According to promise of FAW Car’s board, during National Day celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding the People's Republic of China, the new edition of luxury brand “Red Flag" (Hongqi) saw the daylight. The flagship sedan was presented at Shanghai Motor Show in 2005 as HQD, and it received nickname ‘Chinese Rolls-Royce’. A production version of this car has modified body, thanks to which it refers to its predecessors.

Cars of Red Flag brand were top Chinese models in China in 1950-1980 years and were destined mainly to high-ranking officials. Some time ago FAW announced, that new model HQE will restore former glory Red Flag brand and will be real competitor of such cars as Rolls-Royce Phantom or Bentley. Although the official price list hasn’t appeared so far, it is known that it will be the most expensive car in brand’s history. Mass production of limousine, which has been created for more than five years, will start at the end of this year.

The top model has 6,33 meter length and weighs more than three tons. Nearly four meter wheelbase is much longer then its predecessors and currently competitors. Thanks to it, producer installed three row seats in the car. Producer emphasized a prestige of car and changed name for HQE, which indicates membership in luxury segment represented by Maybach 62. HQE is equipped with 12 cylinder, 6-litres engine which produces 408 hp (550 Nm). The new engine (code CA12GV) has aluminium body and variable valve timing system and is the first 12-cylindres engine designed by Chinese engineers . Experiences collected during making this project will be used to build another V6 and V8 engines, destined for cars from B and C segments.

Potential clients will be able to order the armored version of HQE, like this which participated in celebration of 1st October. Car will be sold through an integrated sales Network of FAW Besturn. Official date of release hasn’t been odisclosed so far.
