China to offer rebates on green vehicles

China state radio informed, that the government would offer huge cash rebates for green vehicles. If new regulations come into life, inhabitants of 13 major cities would receive returns higher than 80,000 USD (600,000 yuan – 87,700 USD). The worth of supplement will depend on the car’s type, and maximum fare will be practically given only for institutional customers.

Till 2012, the Chinese government is planning to invest 29,239 billion USD in development and promotion of green cars used mainly by public transport. The government has announced lately, that the total number 60,000 of such vehicles will be tested in 11 major Chinese cities. The Chinese government is also considering reforms to fuel taxation and pricing in order to stimulate sales of fuel efficient vehicles. When buying the smallest hybrid cars, the driver will receive fare of even 7,300 USD (50,000 USD). The biggest rebates will be given for fuel cell buses.

There are no official information approving introducing new regulations, or if the rebates will include vehicles produced by overseas concerns.

Toyota Prius, the most popular hybrid car all over the world, found in 2008 only 899 purchasers.
