BYD E6 is the first Chinese can with electrical drive. Vehicle debuted officially last year at Pekin auto show. This year it was presented already at the Detroit show. Chinese concern does not veil, that its goal is to debut fast on the American market, which is going to happen in 2011. Famous Warren Buffer, which bought 10% of BYD stock, paying 230 mln USD, has invested in Chinese company as well.
Two big presentetions and many marketing activities, such as announcement of this years’ service at the Copenhagen climate conference, caused fast spread of information about innovative project. What is already known about E6? Cars’ dimensions are following (mm): 4,554x1,822x1,630, wheelbase is 2,830 mm. The model the most similar in dimensions aspect is Citroen C4 Grand Picasso.
The most important car’s element is drive. In E6 case, the car maker announces four variants, from which two will be four-wheel drive. There will be following configuration possible to choose: 75 kW (front), 160 kW (front), 75 kW + 40 kW (4x4) and 160 kW + 40 kW (4x4). Depending on drive, the car weight will be 2,020 to 2,175 kg. Five-sear body will have only 375 kg of load capacity. Depending on configuration as well, the vehicle will have different performance. The strongest version will accelerate to 100 km/h in 9.2 sec. and maximum speed will be 185 km/h. The weakest one will reach 140 km/h.
BYD E6 will be equipped with “iron accumulators”, which are cheaper than lithium-ionic ones. Theirs huge advantage is, that they are not toxic and possible to be recycled. Theirs charging take quite long time (9-10 hours), when charging from home plug, but using special plug it will be possible to charge 80% of accumulator in only 15 minutes. According to preliminary data, the car’s range will be 300 km, what with theoretically vitality, counted for 2,000 loadings, gives 600,000 km of range.
There are still no information about possible sale of BYD Auto in Poland, although the Dutch company, responsible for distributing cars in Europe, is already speaking with Czech Republic and in Slovakia.
