The new MG concept car

The MG Concept 5 is one of a whole array of models that Chinese auto giant Shanghai Auto is planning for the marque and sister brand Roewe over the next five years, as it aims to sell 700,000 cars globally by 2015 - according to Inside Line. For Concept 5, read MG5, with this sportily proportioned five-door hatchback previewing a Golf-class car due out at the end of 2011, to slot beneath the slightly larger MG6.

MG3 - the new rival in the city car segment

After four year of work SAIC introduces small MG3 model on the market. The car which comes from the concept of model 'Zero' has been presented at several auto shows, but just now it went into journalist’s hands. Producer is proud, that MG6 is sixth element of the MG’s urban models evolution which has stared in 1924, when Austin Seven was introduced. After it were Morris Minor 1000, MG 1300 and more modern MG ZR and still produced MG SW.

MG is back - journalists laud, SAIC announces another cars

SAIC launched new brand Maxus for vans

Iveco and Ford Transit must be alert to their new competitor. On Feb. 28, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. launched a new brand Maxus (Datong in Chinese) for light commercial vehicles. Like Transit, Maxus was a series of vans, minibuses and chassis produced by a British van maker LDV, which was bought by SAIC in 2010. Maxus is a synonym for LDV, because it has been a sole product of LDV Group since 2006. Now, SAIC is preparing to launch production of the MAXUS 16-seat van in its assembly plant located in Wuxi, near Shanghai. According to the Shanghai Daily, the van goes on sale in July.

Roewe 550 as MG6 debuts in UK, in Europe soon

MG Motor has revealed the saloon version of its new MG6 at Longbridge - according to British autocar. The car maker, which collapsed in 2005, was snapped up by China's biggest car maker SAIC and has been biding time while its new masters planned how to revive this famous British marque. Sales of the new four-door Focus rival will start in the UK in July, three months after the first deliveries of the new five-door hatchback. Prices for the saloon model are likely to be between ÂŁ17,000 and ÂŁ20,000.

MG to expand local dealer network

MG Motor is looking to open 45 new dealerships in the UK to help sell its new range of models, including the MG6 and MG3. The firm has 38 dealerships selling its TF roadster at present and is in talks with 25 prospective dealers over opening dealerships in “45 key open points in various regions of Britain” – according to Car Dealer Magazine.

SAIC to launch Roewe plugin 550 sedan in 2012

At the Chengdu Auto Forum, SAIC’s vice president, Mr. Xiao Guo Pu, announced that the Roewe 550 plugin sedan will launch in 2012. In a talk entitled ‘going greener and greener’ Mr Xiao announced SAIC’s plans for a greener line up of cars, of which the plugin 550 was a major feature. SAIC plans to sell 20,000 new energy vehicles by 2012.

Chinese carmaker wins MG trademark battle

A Chinese manufacturer has won its High Court battle over a famous name in British motoring history. Judge Sir William Blackburne said the Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC) had acquired the rights to the MG trademarks and logos. He ordered Sports and Racing Europe, based in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, to stop using the famous octagonal logo and name on its MG X POWER supercar. The judge ruled it was infringing the marks and had no entitlement to them - according to BBC News.

SAIC Motor starts selling self-developed MG 6 sedan

SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Co., an own-brand vehicle subsidiary of SAIC Motor, yesterday started selling its self-developed MG 6 mid-class sedan in the domestic market, Xinhua News reported. The car is priced from 128,800 yuan ($18,800) to 192,800 yuan. SAIC Motor said the MG 6, available with a 1.8-liter engine and a turbo version, is especially designed for the Asian and European markets. At the 2009 Shanghai auto show in April, the car was unveiled as an own-brand concept of SAIC Motor, which has developed the MG and Roewe brands on the basis of acquired technology.

International launch of all new MG

MG Motor is proud to annunce today, the international launch of the MG6, the first all new MG motor car since the launch of the MGF sports car. Guy Jones, Sales and Marketing Director for MG Motor UK said, "This is a milestone day for the iconic MG brand and for the UK automotive industry. MG has begun the international launch of an all new model that has been designed and engineered here in the UK, for the global automotive market. Currently we only build and sell the mid-engined TF sports car here in the UK, but we can now look forward to expanding the range of MG products."
