FAW Group, Brilliance Auto in merger talks

FAW Group and Brilliance Auto are in talks for merger and restructuring, and FAW is expected to buy controlling stake in Brilliance, the 21st Century Business Herald reported today, citing sources familiar with the matter. "This matter has not taken shape yet," a planning executive of FAW Group said to reporters, not denying the merger talks news. Actually, Brilliance Auto, BMW's partner in China, was approached in August 2008 about a possible takeover by larger rival FAW Group, though they later denied having any discussions about a merger.

FAW shows 22 own-brand models in Shanghai

Chinese auto giant FAW Group has brought 22 vehicle models of its four own brands Jiefang, Hongqi, Xiali and Besturn, 11 engines and three transmission products to the 2009 Shanghai auto show, xinhuanet.com reported today. FAW said it would increase research and development (R&D) spending by 61% to 4.23 billion yuan ($619 million) this year.

Tianjin FAW to build own-brand car on 9G Corolla platform

Tianjin FAW said it will produce the company’s first A-level car based on Toyota’s ninth-generation Corolla platform, according to China Business Journal. It will be the second time for Tianjin FAW to build its own-brand cars by technical transfer from Toyota following the Chinese auto maker introduced Xiali in its early years and built its V-series car -- Vizi, Vela and Vizhi (Weizhi) -- based on the Toyota NBC platform.

Tianjin FAW launched three models of its 2009 Weizhi car in Beijing on October 11. The three models include the Weizhi hatchback elite, sedan elite and sedan flagship editions, which are priced between 56,800 yuan ($8,320) and 68,800 yuan to meet the different demands of customers, said xinhuanet.com today.

Audi has won in customers sale’s quality satisfaction survey in China. In top ten, the local producer – First Automotive Works (FAW) has appeared as well. It has the same score as Mercedes-Benz and placed itself on the second position. Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) was calculated on the base of 8,954 new purchasers’ opinions about 45 the most popular brands.

FAW is going to present the newest sedan signed as B131 at Pekin motor show, exactly on 12th of April. The vehicle will be available with hybrid drive, with 1,5L (100hp) engine, as well as electric engine with 40hp of power. Chinese auto maker FAW Group is now bidding to buy struggling Italian contract manufacturer Carrozzeria Bertone just a few weeks after India Mahindra & Mahindra expressed their interest in the coachbuilder. FAW apparently wishes to use this acquisition as an entry strategy to the European market. FAW also expressed interest in the privatization of Serbia's car manufacturer Zastava.

Polish traders are not interesting of Chinese pickups. This conclusion stems from fast dropping prices of the model ZX Auto Grandtiger produced in 2011. Dealers which has decided distributing of the car compete together who give the lowest price. Grandtiger, which normally costs less then 17,000 EUR* (without taxes) for the best version with two airbags, air conditioning and metallic color, currently is offered for 13,350 EUR*. It is very competitive price, because is equipped with Hyundai’s 2.5l (170 hp) diesel engine and three year warranty.

40 Chinese car were registered in Poland in 2011

The registration data provided by IBRM Samar show, that only 40 Chinese cars were registered in Poland in 2011. Although this result isn’t impressive, it is more twice than in 2010, when the number of registrations was 19. For comparison, a Samar reported 13 units of models „made in China” in 2009, so Polish market is growing up.

Foton Tunland enters to Poland

Beiqi Foton will debut on the Polish market later this year. One of the biggest Chinese producer of commercial vehicles is building sales network. Although we don’t know the official Foton’s offer, we can suppose that only new cars with European homologation and Euro 5 norm can appear on the Polish streets. Foton has only one model which meets our expectations. It is a newest pickup named Foton Tunland (code P201).
