Chery designs compact electric jeep for Israel JV

Chery-Quantum LLC, a joint venture between Israel Corp. and China's Chery Automobile Co., will develop a compact jeep, whose initial technical details have been disclosed by the official Chinese press, said Israel's Globes Online. Israel Corp. invested $225 million in Chery-Quantum for a 50% stake in the JV. Last year, Chery-Quantum changed its premium car strategy to focus on an electric jeep. Chery Auto plans to overtake BYD in 2010 sales

China's largest indigenous automaker Chery Auto plans to outsell its home-grown rival BYD Auto this year, the China Business News (CBN) reported Monday, citing an unnamed source. Ma Deji, Chery's deputy general manager, said its company has set the 2010 sales target at 700,000 units. But a company insider told the CBN that Chery will not loose ground to the Shenzhen-based BYD Auto, which has planned to sell 800,000 units this year.

Chery Auto launches luxury sedan Riich G5

Chery Auto launched the first mid-size sedan model of its luxury sub-brand Riich in Beijing yesterday, Xinhua News reported. The Riich G5 is Chery's first entry model into the premium sedan segment. The car comes with three versions at first, with the retail price starting from 142,800 yuan ($20,900) for the 2.0T 6-speed manual, to 156,800 yuan for the 6-speed manual elite model, and 179,800 yuan for the luxury 5-speed version.

Chery Auto to launch electric car QQEV this month

Chery Auto is set to unveil its own electric vehicle QQEV at the end of this month, sina.com said yesterday, citing a company executive. The car will be priced at 40,000 yuan ($5,860) to 50,000 yuan. The electric car will have a speed range of 60-70 km/hour. It will take about eight hours to recharge the fuel cell and the electric cars can run for more than 100 kilometers between two charging sessions, said Fang Yunzhou, an executive of Chery's new-energy auto branch.

China own-brand fleet marching to Dakar Rally

Rely, a high-end commercial vehicle brand of Chinese carmaker Chery Auto, claimed to take part in Dakar Rally on Oct. 31, Beijing. This marks the first Chinese fleet to compete in world’s top race. Rely X5, the first SUV of Chery’s Rely brand, is ready to be the entry vehicle. Lu Ningjun, the fifth participant in Dakar Rally, will be titled the first driver, paired with Jiang Yaohuan, the newly crowned champion of China Rally Championship in Jilin.

Riich G5 faster than Focus RS on Nürburgring

Chery took their soon to be launched Riich G5 premium sedan to the Nürburgring in Germany for some serious testing of its credentials, and obtained itself a great score considering the previous contenders.The G5 is the first mid size sedan from Chery, and will carry a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine, and also a 2.0T engine. The 2.0T model was the one put through its paces at the ‘Ring yesterday.

Chery to start Turkey plant construction by year end

China's fourth largest automaker, Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., will start construction of an automotive factory in Turkey by the end of this year, Sedat Piroğlu, an official at the Mermerler Group, Chery's Turkey distribution partner, said on Sunday. Attending the Çukurova Autoshow 2009 in Adana, Piroğlu noted that Mermerler has seen increasing sales figures despite entering the market in mid-2008, during the height of the global financial crisis.

Chery Auto launches Rely brand, Rely V5 model

Chinese carmaker Chery Auto launched its Rely brand earlier this week and is set to release the Rely V5 as the first model of this brand, China Car Times said. While the Riich is Chery's upmarket brand, Rely will be Chery's MPV/Business brand, under which a range of MPVs and other 'business vehicles' are expected to be launched over the next few months.

Sixt New Kopel to import Chery cars to Romania

Sixt New Kopel will import to the Romanian market cars of the Chinese manufacturer Chery Automobile, following a partnership signed on 27 July, and the distribution will begin after the cars will receive a type-approval certificate in accordance with the European Union norms, the company announced on Tuesday. Thus, New Kopel becomes exclusive importer of all brands of Chery cars in Romania, reads a release of the operational leasing and car rental company.

Chery to launch hydrogen powered vehicle by 2012

China's Chery Automobile Co is planning to launch a pure hydrogen powered vehicle in the coming three years, Jinghua newspaper reports Thursday. Yuan Tao, deputy general manager of Chery, said at an industry forum that Chery is set to make breakthroughs in hydrogen fuel technologies in the next three years and at the meantime strengthens the R&D of methanol and turbo charging technologies.
