Beijing Auto acquires Swedish transmission plant

Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co (BAIC) has acquired a WEIGL transmission plant in Sweden for 31 million euros (281 million yuan). The factory will enable BAIC to produce large-torque transmissions for its own brand cars, the state-owned Chinese automaker said in a statement – according to Auto News China.

BAIC's first own-brand sedan may come to market this year

Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC), best known for its partnerships with Hyundai and Daimler, will be looking to enter the own brand market later this year. First among its self-produced passenger cars, the code-named BC301 sedan is predicted to hit the markets soon after being showcased at this year's Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (April 21-April 28), reported auto.sina.com.cn

GM will sell Saab production lines to Beijing Auto?

Saab, the Swedish car manufacturer owned by General Motors (GM), is understood to have sold two unused production lines to Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp (BAIC). The deal with BAIC involves Saab selling the production tools to make 9-5 and 9-3 models, which it no longer produces. BAIC, which lacks its own brand name, would manufacture similar cars in China, probably under a different name.

BAIC unveils first E-car, launches green-car plant

Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp (BAIC) has unveiled its first self-developed electric car while launching a new-energy auto company, joining domestic rivals to tap potential demand for clean energy vehicles, Reuters reported. The model, known as BE701, is capable of going as far as 200 kilometer per hour when fully charged, with a maximum speed of 160 km/h, Beijing Auto said in a statement on Saturday at the launching ceremony. The carmaker didn't say when to start mass production of BE701.

Beijing Auto looks to build production facility in Lithuania

Chinese carmaker Beijing Automotive (BAIC) is mulling on the possibility of building a production facility in Lithuania as it looks to secure a base with access to the European market. According to a report by Baltic Business Daily, the company is looking to establish the factory alongside a distribution and logistics centre as it seeks to expand its presence in China and world auto market.

Beijing Auto to launch six new models

Beijing Auto has planned for several own-brand models to be launched in each of the coming years. The carmaker will manage to release two sedan models codenamed BC701 and BC801, two SUV models codenamed B40 and B51, and two hybrid new-energy models in 2010. Most of them will be clean new-energy vehicles.

Chiński holding ma już podpisane umowy z takimi potentatami rynku jak jak Johnson Controls, Tenneco, Visteon oraz Delhi. Nowi partnerzy będą się zajmować głównie dostarczeniem linii produkcyjnych, ale także będą szukały zewnętrznych odbiorców w celach eksportowych.
