SAIC: New MG cars for China and Europe

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC) is developing new MG models for China and Europe on the platform of its Roewe 550 compact car - according to Automotive News Europe. SAIC will launch a new MG car in China at the end of this year. At present sales of this brand is much lower than expectations. In China, SAIC only sold 129 MG TF cars in 2008. It also sold 4,715 units of the MG3 SW small car and 4,357 units of the MG7 sedan last year, according to JATO Dynamics.

The five-door hatchback MG6 will have a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and it will share its platform with SAIC's Roewe 550 compact sedan. The second model will receive have four-door body, and this is the only information about it. Those cars will be first sold in China, but will be made available in Europe in the future.

Currently only three MG cars - the MG7 four-door sedan, the MGTF roadster and the MG3SW hatchback, are built and sold in China.

He began his career with the Swedish automaker in 1991 as head of design, helping to create new models such as the XC90 crossover before he moved in 2002 to Ford's Premier Automotive Group. Many car dealers in China are stressed these days, because most of their products failed to reach the new limit to get 3000 RMB (€340) subsidy for fuel-saving cars again - according to China Car Times. The subsidy policy for fuel-saving cars started from June 1, 2010, which has involved more than 400 models and 2 million cars. The so-called fuel-saving car is a passenger vehicle powered by a petrol or diesel engine, including non-plug-in hybrid or bi-fuel power, and the displacement is less than 1.6 liter.

China's July Car Sales Edge up

In July, the nation's auto sales and output saw its first increase after two consecutive months of decline. Auto sales in China climbed 2.18 percent year-on-year to reach 1.28million units in July, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said Wednesday. The country produced 1.31 million cars in July, up 1.26 percent from one year earlier, the CAAM said.
