New/old Cherokee for $11,800

The Jeep Cherokee was the first foreign car to go into production in China in 1984 after New China’s founding in 1949, and it seems to have struck a chord with Chinese consumers. The Cherokee is a timeless classic, it seems AMC hit the design note on the head the first time around and thus the Cherokee had only a few updates over the past two and a half decades of production, for 2011 the Cherokee has finally become part of Beijing Auto’s self developed line up where it will be known as the S12.

The S12 is being set up as Beijing’s entry level SUV and will be placed under the recently launched 007 SUV and will come with a 2.0L engine that is available only in two wheel drive mode or a 2.2L that has all wheel drive capabilities, the 3.0V6 Cherokee engine appears to have been rubbed from the headline for 2011.

Prices for the S12 range from 78,800rmb to 93,800rmb for the top of the range AWD model.
