Women from Beijing sued BYD Auto, because airbags didn’t activate in her car during road accident. She claims, that the high level of safety in this car is overrated. The woman said, that her friend who had borrowed the vehicle was involved in a serious rear-end collision the next month, suffered concussion and was in hospital for one week after the crash - according to motoring.asiaone.com.
Injured party argued in court, that model F0 was bought for 40,000 yuan (USD 8,145), because catalogues indicated high five stars safety level. Meanwhile, after a road collision the woman found information, that in official crash test carried out by C-NCAP from 24 August, BYD F0 received only three stars score, so injured gets screwed. Moreover, advertising with stars had appeared before the official crash test and they didn’t have any confirmation in reality. How stars appeared in advertising brochures?
Representative of BYD Auto told the court that the "5 star" slogan was just used to show their love for China, because the national flag is composed of 5 stars. For woman this explanation is absurd, because it was well known in the industry that 5 stars referred to the safety test levels and the car was presented as met the national standard and passed the national safety collision experiment. Industry expert agrees with woman and confirms, that "these two test standards are far lower than international standards".
BYD refused to comment this situation, but both sites expressed a desire to settle out of court and will meet to negotiate in the coming days.
BYD is owned by Wang Chuanfu, who this week was named the nation's richest man with a fortune of more than $5.1 billion. BYD Co is aiming to become the nation's largest passenger car manufacturer ahead by 2015. It wants to overtake Toyota as the world's No 1 car maker, and sell more than 10 million cars annually by 2025.
