FAW B50 – as a direct Roewe 550 competitor

According to announcements, FAW has presented today the new B50 sedan, which, under the Honqui Brand, will compete with Roewe 550 in one segment. Drafts of projects, marked as B131 code, appeared in web over two weeks ago, as a part of planned campaign launching a new model. The model was being worked up through two years. According to unofficial information, the basic price will be 18,500 USD, when Roewe’s prices will start from 16,575 USD.

The vehicle will be available with modern hybrid drive, including 1.5L petrol engine (100hp) and electric engine with 40hp of power. The top speed of hybrid version is 191 km/h and acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 12.5 seconds. Modern drive will let to reduce fuel consumption even by 35%, result of which the average consumption will decrease to only 5.8 l/100 km. Nickel-metal-hydrogen accumulators (288 V) will keep the energy. Theirs disadvantage is faster discharge’s time and shorter liveliness, and advantage – bigger capacity (around 30%).

Beside B50, FAW presented bigger model B70HEV as well, which was known under the name – Besturn before. The new nomenclature is connected with cars’ range enlargement. In future it will include also B30 and B90 models, when the number means vehicle’s class. Version B70VEV means hybrid drive and – as the carmaker ensures – it let reduce the fuel consumption till 6L/100 km. Few cars will be used during organization of Olympic Games.
