Hover is some kind of Japanese, old technology’s mix. Its suspension comes from Toyota 4Runner (1989 year), engine from Mistsubishi Pajero (1991 year), exterior and interior design from Isuzu Axiona (1999 year). The car has been being produced since 2005, nearly in the same form. It was officially unveiled in Paris in 2006. In January 2007 Great Wall Motor marketed the modernized Hover’s version on the local market. The car was a little bit redesigned; new textile trims and richer standard equipment appeared in interior. The most important change is the new Turbo Diesel engine, which replaced the old 2.8 litres engine (Isuzu).
Hover is equipped with Mitsubishi engine (Code: 4G64_S4M) with 2.4 litres of capacity (16V SOHC) and 136 bhp of maximum power. It fits Euro 3 emission standard. 196 bhp of maximum torque let the car go from 0 – 100 km/h in 11 sec. Maximum speed is 170 km/h. Front wheel drive is a standard, as well as 5-speed transmission, but customers can have also rear wheel drive version as an option. New 2.0 Diesel engine INTEC (16V) with BOSCH Common-Rail system debuted in face lifted model. The new engine has 95 bhp of maximum power (with 3,600 rpm for maximum power) and 225 Nm of maximum torque (1,600 – 2,600 rpm for maximum torque). The car’s kerbweight is 1,790 kg, and gross vehicle weight is 2,265 kg. The advantage of Diesel engine is low fuel economy and Euro 4 emission standard. In Poland, the car is offered with LPG installation.
Hover was tested in crash test by local organization C-NCAP (Chinese New Car Assessment Programme). According to local punctuation the car got 3 stars in it. Parameters of this kind of crash tests are not the same as they are in EuroNCAP, but they fit official certification procedure (ECE-R 94 standard). Compared to other Chinese cars, it has got ABS and four disc brakes as a standard. Hover can be equipped with maximum 2 airbags.
Great Wall Motor is planning to sell its vehicles in other European Union countries by itself. But before coming into the biggest west markets, company wants to try its opportunities in poorer countries, i.e. Romania. Plans for 2007 year predict about 1,000 units of Hover. The stockist will be Alexandrion Group company, which has exclusiveness for selling Great Wall brand in Hungary, Bulgaria, Moldavia and Macedonia.
The distributor in West Europe is the Italian company Euroasia (www.euroasiamotor.com).
In the beginning the special version Sport will be offered only in Italy. It is going to be really attractive especially for young people. Great Wall’s local dealers will be responsible for its modification. Advantages of the car are: lower suspension, alloy pedals, red leather upholstery and more interesting exterior design (alloy wheels, tinted lights, special tyres).
