Chinese Yaris will debut in Italy

Great Wall Motor Co. plans to start selling its Voleex subcompact in Europe in the first half of next year - according to Automotive News Europe. Italy has became the first European country where the car will be exported. Later, it will launch sales of locally assembled Voleex cars in Bulgaria, said Roger Gao, manager of the company's international branding department - Automotive News Europe said.

The Voleex is a small city car with 3,8 meter length and its body is almost identical as currently produced Toyota Yaris. Although interiors of both cars are completely different but nobody has doubts that this is the copy of Japanese Yaris. The Voleex destined to European markets is powered 1.5 VVT (105 hp) petrol engine which allows reach 175 km/h. Customers will also choose the CVT transmission. We don’t know anything about an equipment which will be available in Europe, but the car will get most of the electric gadgets probably. Unfortunately, the car has only ABS and two airbags i China. C-NCAP hasn’t made a crashtest of this car so far.

Italy is the only European market where GWM exports its products. The company currently sells the Hover SUV and the Wingle pickup there. GWM has 80 dealerships in Italy, but the sales isn’t an encouraging for Chinese company., which debuted in Italy five years ago. Great Wall's Italian importer, Eurasia Motor Company S.p.A., introduced the brand in 2006 and hoped to sell as many as 12,000 units annually after three years. In 2009, Eurasia sold just 1,785 units.

During 10-month this year the sales of Chinese brands in Italy rose 16 percent to 5,353 units, and it is the best score in the whole Europe.
