Chinese carmaker BYD Auto is being invited by Portland officials to select Portland as its distribution center or even produce some of its hybrid or all-electric cars here. Representatives from the biggest city in Oregon state are spoting to chance, how to give a fast development of ecological car, mainly electrics and hybrids, which are produced by Chinese carmaker.
BYD Auto announced some time ago, that it wants to sell cars in United States. Two hybrid models - F3DM and F6DM, likely will sell for $25,000 to $30,000, if they will be produce in China. BYD hopes to introduce its all-electric models, the F3e and F6e. For these cars to be successful in the U.S. market, Li says, high-speed charging stations offering 220-volt sockets would have to be widely available. BYD to show these cars on Detroit.
Both sides haven’t made a final decision yet, but officials from Portland know, that making cars in Mexico is much cheaper then USA.
